Easier than you think
Checklist for your BAföG Application

Here we help you through the jungle of forms and show you what you need for each application.

What we need from you:

Form 1 - Only for your very first application

You already know almost everything that is asked for. You only have to look up your bank details, tax ID which is on the child benefit statement (so ask your parents) and "assets" (see below). If a question does not apply to you at all, simply draw a line in the gap.

Form 9 – Short version for every further application

New and practical: Only fill in one page, without verifications.

Certificate of Enrolment - with every new application

Have you received a Certificate of Enrolment from your university (usually online) on which the standard period of study can be seen? We need this.

Proof of assets - only for the first application

The term "assets" includes all amounts you have in accounts, savings books, securities, etc. (including negative values). Also include the current value of your car or motorcycle but only if YOU are the registered owner (value can be determined using the website DAT – die Brancheninstitution). Proof must be dated less than 14 days before your application date!

Proof of tenancy - Only with your first application or after a move to a new flat

If you do not live at home (or in a flat owned by your parents), you should submit a copy of your rental agreement/sublet agreement (only the most relevant pages!) or the certificate of transfer of ownership.

Proof of health insurance - Only for the initial application. If privately insured, with each new application

If your health is independently insured (i.e. not through your family) or privately insured, request a proof of insurance from your health insurance company and send it to us.

Proof of performance - Only once at the end of the 4th semester!

For many courses of study, the proof of performance is your transcript. Enquire at the examination office (Prüfungsamt) early enough to see how many points you should have for your major after the 4th semester. For some courses of study (e.g. law, medicine, music) Form 5 is required. In order for it to be valid it must be issued and stamped by the examination office! If you do not achieve the required score, come to our office, we will advise you.
